Emilio Terranova is an active Los Angeles based jazz bassist. He earned his Bachelors of Music degree in Jazz Bass from California State University Northridge under the guidance of Gary Pratt and Darek Oleszkiewicz, then continued under Darek’s and Charlie Haden’s direction at California Institute of the Arts to earn a Masters of Fine Arts degree.
Emilio has performed alongside such greats as Larry Koonse, Howie Shear, Kim Richmond, John Daversa, and countless others at Los Angeles’ top jazz venues including Catalina Bar & Grill, Blue Whale, and Vibrato Grill Jazz. He has recorded over 12 records in his short tenure in the Los Angeles jazz scene and has played internationally including a performance at the Umbria Jazz Festival 2017. His current creative projects include Chord Four, A Conrad Trio, Trevor Anderies Quintet, and Michael Mull Octet. Emilio’s band Chord Four won first place in the 2017 CONAD Jazz Contest in Italy and continues to play festivals and venues in Italy.
Before joining on as Jazz Director at Valencia High School, Emilio taught Jazz Combo classes at California State University Northridge from 2011-2016, and has been on staff at two other high schools as a jazz and bass instructor. His loving wife Marissa is a trumpeter and band director in the Beverly Hills Unified School District, and when possible they enjoy their time playing tunes and performing together.
